Research into Comedy Genre

Comedy film:
This is a genre of film where the main emphasis is humour, this is done to create laughter from the audience and allows them to enjoy the film. Comedies are generally light-hearted dramas and are made to amuse and entertain the audiences. Comedy films use humorously exaggerated situations, humours ways of speaking or actions of characters to enable them to make the audience laugh.

Examples of successful comedies are:

Although Comedy is a genre of film, it doesn't stop there. Often These types of films have sub-genres. This means two genres can be applied in one film so it applies to both and cannot be put in one catagory. Some examples of these are:

 Romantic-Comedy, sometimes called 'RomCom':
Romantic-Comedy is a genre that attempts to appeal to a wider range of audiences with the combination of love and humor.Romantic-Comedy film revolves around a romantic ideal, such as true love but involves humour. An Example of a successful romantic-comedy is Forgetting Sarah Marshall.

Horror-Comedy: Horror-Comedy combines comedy with traditional horror movie themes and characters. Horror-Comedy films aim to scare the audience, but also provide comical outlets that let the audience laugh at their fear, this attracts a wider audience.
This is a trialer from Shaun Of the Dead which is a horror comedy because it is full with blood and zombies but also includes humour. Although i do think this is a good way to attract a wider audience, i think for a short student film like ours, this would be  too hard to successfully pull off.

Action-Comedy: This sub-genre combines action with humor. Action-Comedy relies on the characters to bring out the humor, while the action scenes tend to be less intense than in the traditional action movie.

Hot Fuzz is an action-comedy film as it includes both humorous actors but includes an action storyline.
